Antique Mirror

I reluctantly painted this antique mirror the other day, and I'm SO glad I did!

Both of my kids have asked me if they can keep it. (Casey did BEFORE I girlied it up with the hearts) Just thought I would clarify ;)

I found this mirror while I was buying some furniture from a women off of Craigslist. As I pulled up I saw it sitting  at the curb!

She thought that since the matching dresser had been ruined no one would want the mirror. She thought wrong :)

I took it home and tried to sell it on Craigslist in it's original beautiful wooden state, but there were no takers. Now that I'm selling things at Mindy's Classic Finds I thought I'd pretty it up and bring it over there.

I painted it with 2 coats of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Provence. Then I distressed it with a fine piece of sanding paper and wiped the whole thing with some Ralph Lauren tinted glaze to age it a bit.

For the oval at the top of the mirror I painted it with the provence blue, distressed it, painted it with ASCP in Old White, distressed it again, then wiped on some watered down Old White and wiped some glaze over it. That was a long sentence :)

I forgot to mention that I taped it with a million little pieces of painters tape first!

It wasn't looking so great being heavily distressed like that which is why I ended up wiping the watered down white over it in the end.

I think it would look so nice above a white dresser in a little girl's room with this little heart garland hanging on it :)

I just hope that someone at the store thinks so too!! :)

It's amazing what a splash of paint can bring.
Some child will be lucky to have that added to their imagination-land.
